Ran across the thread about what we want most this holiday season, but what about gift ideas for friends and family? This could be a nice place to collection a little list of things. Doesn't have to be secular or atheist-oriented in nature, but... hey, couldn't help. :)

If anyone does get socks for christmas, you can always give them to someone in desperate need of socks. Hint.

In terms of gift ideas...

I think the Indian rupee is a better bet than the Chinese yuan. Whatever you do, don't give US dollars. They'll be in big trouble any time now.

A fungible commodity: flour, crude oil, swine or electricity. That way you can be sure they can sell it at market price if they don't like it. If they can't take delivery (cows) then just get them a futures contract for the commodity.

Some annoying people claim to not be materialistic, which makes shopping for them difficult. Buy them life insurance. They can never get at the money.

Property in Detroit is pretty cheap.

Hope that helps

My gift idea is think of something you can make that others can use....then make that as a gift.  Example:  Cookies, blankets, or scarfs.  I making cookies, knit scarfs and knit hats this year.

I'll probably be painting all my gifts. People love it when you show them a painting that has their favorite subject in it, and it's THEIR GIFT. Especially if you put a lot of work into it. They'll put out.  :hide:

Haha. Socks always work :) Just get ones with pictures of jesus for the religious family members..

My family were surprisingly easy to buy for this year. I got my mum the entire Battlestar Galactica box set. She's going to absolutely love that although i doubt my dad will see her for a few months after i give it to her. He won't mind, though, because he'll be using his shiny new flight sim joystick for his helicopter simulator.

I've always found edible presents to be well received. A small hamper or some super strong Stilton with port.
QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.
